Description:  A terrific modernist work on paper by a recently rediscovered painter, teacher and writer.   We have two others listed.  These three works have to be seen to be believed.  Each work is really a pointillist work with thousands of tiny vertical and horizontal brushstrokes that make up the images.  These can be seen in the photos.  It must have taken him some time to complete these works.  All were recently reframed in archival materials.  There is an excellent YouTube tribute video by the artist’s son.

Wood was an artist who has recently begun to be rediscovered for his modernist vision.  He was born in Canada and moved to the United States in the late 1930s.  He served in the US Army during World War II and saw action in the Pacific theater.  He studied art in New York City at the Grand Central School of Art, the New School for Social Research and the Art Students League, both before and after the war.

In 1948, he opened the Paul W. Wood Studio in Port Washington, NY in Long Island where he taught art.  He also began an extensive career working in stained glass and was a noted author.

Wood was an acclaimed author, publishing at least nine books and numerous articles for periodicals on issues of art theory, art history and instructional volumes about abstract and modern art and working in stained glass.

The three watercolors we are offering for sale are clearly influenced by his work and designs for stained glass and abstraction.  The group looks amazing hung together and we will consider reasonable offers if you are interested in all three.
